Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

Unlock unlimited execution and absolute privacy by routing your automation intelligence through your own provider endpoints.

By default, Hands operates on a Free tier that utilizes our shared backend infrastructure subject to dynamic rolling limits, or the Pro Tier for high-throughput execution via the Hands Super Model. By configuring BYOK, your browser extension communicates directly with an LLM provider of your choice, completely bypassing the Hands backend.

Supported Providers

Hands supports any LLM endpoint that is OpenAI API compatible. This means you can plug in OpenAI, Groq, Together AI, or even local offline models running via Ollama.

Configuration Steps

  1. Open the Hands extension side panel by clicking the icon in your browser toolbar.
  2. Click the Settings (Gear) icon in the top right corner.
  3. Toggle Use Custom Provider to ON.
  4. Enter your Custom API Key (BYOK) into the input field.
  5. Enter the Custom Base URL for your endpoint. (Note: You must include the full path ending in /chat/completions for the call to succeed. E.g., https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions, or http://localhost:11434/v1/chat/completions).
  6. Enter the Custom Model ID (e.g., gpt-4o, llama3).
  7. Click Save Settings.

Security Note

Your API keys are encrypted and stored locally inside your browser's chrome.storage.local. They are never transmitted to our servers or synced to the cloud. When a workflow runs, the HTTP request is made directly from your browser to the provider (e.g., directly to api.openai.com).
